A view taken from the Campanile.Venice isn't that large a city!

Another view from the Campanile, overlooking the Piazza San Marco.

This was one of the days when Venice was flooded (very common during the fall and winter months). One of the first places to go under water is the piazza - it was quite amusing to see cafe tables and chairs standing in the midst of a miniature sea!

This is how you get around during a flood (or 'acqua alta') - on platforms! There are cops everywhere and they aren't shy about using their whistles & shouting 'andiamo, andiamo!' when silly tourists aren't moving quickly enough.
The famous Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri). It leads from the Doges' palace to the prison. It was presumably named after the sighs that the prisoners heaved when they crossed it on their way to the dungeons after having been interrogated in the palace.

Venice by night. It's not a very well-li city, which adds to the mystique and romance.
